Discover the Jewish Story Behind Barcelona’s Ancient Streets

This walking tour takes you through the former Jewish neighborhood of Barcelona - a compact area in the Gothic Quarter rich in memory and meaning.

As we move through its narrow medieval streets, we’ll talk about the people who once lived here: rabbis, poets, artisans, merchants - members of a vibrant community that helped shape the city’s cultural and economic life. We’ll explore what remains, what was lost, and how Jewish presence is remembered or overlooked in today’s Barcelona.

We’ll discuss why this Jewish quarter stood so close to the royal palace, how Jews navigated their complex relationship with the crown and the Church, and what daily life looked like behind these ancient walls.

You’ll hear about famed medieval scholars, internal tensions, and the broader context of Jewish life across Spain and Europe.

We’ll make space to reflect on the lives of Jewish women, often overlooked, but vital to the community’s resilience and spirit.

This is more than just a historical walk. It’s a way to understand how Jewish Barcelona once flourished and how its presence still lingers today, in subtle yet lasting ways.
