Jewish Life Inside Medieval Girona
This half-day tour begins in Barcelona and takes us to the historic city of Girona, by train or by private car, depending on your preference.
Along the way, I’ll share the historical background of the region and place Girona within the wider story of Jewish life in medieval Catalonia, so the visit begins even before we arrive.

Once in Girona, we’ll walk through El Call of Girona, one of Europe’s best-preserved medieval Jewish quarters, and talk about the people who lived here — families, scholars, merchants, and community leaders — and about what daily Jewish life looked like behind these stone walls.

We’ll explore how the Jewish community functioned within a Christian city, how it was organized, and how learning, work, and religious life were balanced in this close-knit neighborhood.

A central part of the visit is the Museum of Jewish History, located in a former synagogue complex, where documents, objects, and inscriptions help place Girona within the broader world of Jewish life in medieval Spain.

This tour doesn’t focus only on names and dates.
We look at the places that remain, the traces left in stone, and the legacy that still shapes Girona today.
